Per January 2021, I have joined the department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering (PME) of the faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering (3mE) to study and develop optomechanical sensors in microsystems. Mechanical sensors in microsystems, such as pressure sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes, and ultrasound receivers are used in industries ranging from consumer electronics to healthcare to high-tech. The core of such sensors is a typically electric displacement sensor while light can measure displacement with extreme precision. And with integrated photonics, light can be guided and manipulated in a photonic microchip. My research vision is to study integrated photonic waveguides as extreme precision displacement sensors in micromechanical systems thereby enabling new application in healthcare and industry, among others in the field of ultrasound.
